Son of William Baker and Chloe Horton, husband of Eliza Ann or Anne Elizabeth, and father of Deborah Anna and Martin Lewis Baker.

Brother of Deborah, Daniel, James Prior, Frances, George, Phoebe, and Charles W. Baker.

Half brother of Polly, T.F., Charlotte, Esther, Diller, William, Esther, and Mulford Baker.

In 1850, Lewis Baker, aged 31, seaman, could be found living in the home of his mother, Chloe Baker, aged 64, with his wife, Eliza, aged 28, and daughter, Deborah Baker, aged 9.

On January 9, 1860, his mother, Chloe Baker, died of palsy at the age of 71 in Brookhaven, after an illness of three weeks.

Lewis Baker was captain of the vessel "Frances" (named after his sister) for many years. In the Long Island Directories 1864, under Patchogue Louis (sic) is listed as a captain with a home on Fulton near Bay.
In the Records of the Town of Brookhaven, New York (1655-1885, Vol. 10, there is an entry dated 4 April 1865, granting "to Lewis Baker Five acres of ground under water for laying down oysters lying in South Bay between the Lots of William Ackerly and Alfred Mott the bounds to be fixed by buoys, from now until March 15th 1866 for Five Dollars." After three years Lewis is granted a dock for three dollars per year for a four-year term (p. 291).

In the Records of the Town of Brookhaven, New York (1655-1885, Vol. 01, there is an entry recorded 2 June 1869, dated Patchogue 31 December 1852 (p. 148) listing a number of people living on Patchogue Lane agreeing to give up five feet of land in order to widen the lane from thirty feet to forty feet. Some of the names included are Lewis Baker, Davis Baker, Charles W. Baker, Daniel Baker, Daniel Brown, William C. Smith, John Miller, S. C. Horton, Gilbert G. Horton, William Horton, Edward Horton, and more. A Release of Land on Patchogue Lane (p. 258) is dated 1 October 1863 and lists George Jennings, Charles W. Baker, Lewis B. Baker, Daniel T. Raynor, Charity Mulford, Richard C. Howell, and Daniel Brown among the forty-five names.
