John Amole
John Amole, son of Levi and Sara Walley Amole, was born February 11th, 1839, near Bainbridge, Ohio; died March 8th, 1919, at Humbolt with diabetes.
His parents were one of the early pioneers of Ross County, says the"Bainbridge Observer."
He was married to Nancy M. Swope, September 3rd, 1861, in Ross County, Ohio.
To this union were born six children, William of Denver, Colorado, Frank of Bainbridge, Ira of Des Plaines, Mrs. E. I. Kerns and Mrs. John Robison of Fruitdale, Ohio and John of Humbolt, Ohio.
These children, with the exception of William and son, Frank of Denver, together with two sisters, Mrs. Allen Kneis and Mrs. Henry Stoneback, both of Bainbridge, Ohio and four grandchildren, and a number of relatives and friends, were present the day of the funeral to comfort the loving wife who has been his constant companion for more than 51 years.
Early in this year he was stricken, since which time he has been a great sufferer.
He bore it patiently, was always kind and cheerful, thinking of others before himself, especially thoughtful of those in need.
In February 1862, he enlisted in Co. G 60th O.V.I. for one year.
He received a discharge in this regiment when his time expired, and remained at home one year.
On September 14, 1864, he re-enlisted in Co. H. 176 O.V.I, serving until the end of the war, receiving an honorable discharge June 14, 1965.
All his friends and neighbors can testify to his loyalty to his country and his flag, having erected a flag pole several years ago on his lawn and any one passing by the home he loved so well, would always see the stars and stripes floating on the breezes on all holidays and patriotic occasions.
The funeral services were held at the late residence March 10th, 1913. Rev. Kearns-Preston of the Presbyterian Church of Bainbridge officiating.
Interment in the Bainbridge Cemetery.
