Father Flaherty was ordained at Holy Name Church in West Roxbury for the Diocese of Burlington, VT. His first assignment was Chirist the King Church in Burlington BT. His next aassignment was St. Anthony's Church in White River Junction, where he was also the Chaplain at the Veterans Adinistration Hospital.
He was the former pastor of St. Bernadette's Church in Bridgport, VT, Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe, VT, and Holy Cross Church in Colchester, VT, and held several diocesan offices.
He retired in 1980 and had been at St. Brendan's, Dorchester since 1981.
Father Flaherty served in the Air Force during WWII and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a member of the South Boston Irish American Society and the Castle Island Associates.
Fr. Flaherty was the brother of the late Rose M. Flaherty, and had several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be said June 25 at St. Brendan's and burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan.
