HOWARD BERNELL ROBERTS:
Services for Howard Bernell Roberts, 76, of Corning were held Wednesday, April 3, at the United Methodist Church here with the Rev. Jonathon Arnpriester officiating. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery near Mt Etna.
. Mr. Roberts was born April 22, 1914, to Orlando Stephen and Elsie Powell Roberts in Washington Township, Adams County, and died March 31, 1991, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He attended school through the 11th grade before going into farming which was his life long occupation.
He married Evelyn Grace Ridnour December 2, 1936, at Collins, Iowa. They were the parents of six children.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Mt Etna Methodist Church until it closed, then attended the Carbon Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening and was especially enthusiastic about his potato growing. He was a 4-H leader for several years and won the SCS award for Master Corn Growers one year. Hobbies included coon hunting, fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother. Evan Clayton; and two brothers-in-law, Frank Galusha and Louis Lynam. Survivors include his wife Evelyn; two sons Larry (wife Ruth), Glen (wife Mary Lou): four daughters Lila (Mrs. Darrell) Behrens of Villisca, Glenna (Mrs. Patrick) Day. and Janet (Mrs. Robert) Gray, both of Des Moines, and Mary Lou (Mrs. Danny) Oswald of Urbandale; five brothers, Eldon (Twylla), Harrison, Hylton (Margaret) all of Corning, Orlando (Virginia) of Tucson, Ariz., and Lewis (Mary Lou) of Lawrence, Kan.; four sisters Charlotte Galusha, Milford. Neb., Verda Roberts and Jessie (Mrs. Roy) Krauth of Corning and Lucille (Mrs. Ted) Krauth of Omaha, Neb, 19 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; his motherin- law, Delphia Ridnour; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Lynam and Lois (Mrs. Alvin) Mitchell all of Corning.
Casket bearers were grandsons Gene Behrens. Kevin Roberts, Kendall Roberts, Rick Behrens, Michael Day, Bill Gray. Tom Roberts, Matthew Day, Daniel Oswald and David Fazio.
