Son of Johan Mathias and Anna Katherine (Maehren) Kreiser. Born in the village of Buchel, Cochem-Zell, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. He immigrated to Ohio with mother and siblings, his father passed away prior. Settled in New Salem, Allegan Co., Michigan with his wife, Martha who was a Dutch immigrant. Mathias had a brother, Nicholas who also was residing in New Salem and attending St. Mary's Parish.
Mathias' mother remarried in Ohio and had more children.
