All of about two years of age, I can still remember Sam's headstone in my Grandmother's backyard near Spouting Horn. Early 1960s, all the family plots were dug up and relocated to the Hawaiian Cemetery.

Liula registered for the WW1 draft in July 1917. One year later he was "called to colors" but died shortly after reporting for duty. In 1918, there was a worldwide outbreak of influenza. Sam was a casualty of this epidemic, dying from influenza with tuberculosis as a contributing factor. Prior to enlisting, he worked for the Koloa Sugar Company Plantation.
