What was to have been a brief pleasure trip to Florida for 5-year-old A.C. Dempsey, Jr., of Kannapolis, N.C., ended tragically last Saturday afternoon at 1:15 when the child and his aunt, Mrs. Alvira Van Allen, 39, of Miami, met death in an automobile accident on U.S. 301 between Starke and Lawtey (Florida). Injured in the Accident were Mrs. Van Allen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Byrd, of Lakeland, Florida.
According to information received, the Byrds and Mrs. van Allen had been visiting Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Dempsey, Sr., in Kannapolis, N.C. The weather there had been so cold and disagreeable that the Dempseys decided to let there little son return to Florida with his relatives for a brief visit.
