Dr. Benjamin Coleman Tubb, 95, of Smithville, one of the last country doctors in the area, who had practiced medicine for over 65 years, died at 11:15 p.m. Oct. 13, 1973 at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. Born on August 14, 1878 in the Hatley Community, Dr. Tubb was married to Dellie Ophelia Bibby in 1904. He had said he had delivered more that 5,000 babies during his medical career. He was a graduate of Nashville University and practiced medicine from 1908 until 1973. He was a member of Hatley Primitive Baptist Church. Services were held Oct. 15 from Smithville Baptist Church with burial in the Smithville Cemetery. Pickle Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors included three foster sons, Esmond Ritter of Smithville, Erie Ritter of Amory and Saville Ritter of Nettleton; two daughters, Mrs. Marcelle McDonald and Mrs. Elma Mae Reedy, both of Smithville; one sister, Mrs. Eva Gideon of Amory; nine grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

He was the son of Alfred William Tubb and Nancy Evaline (Seely) Tubb.
