Charles B. ‘Chuck' Woodward

(July 25, 1918 - March 25, 2009)

Charles B. 'Chuck' Woodward, age 90, of 39385 Kleinsteiber Road, Highbridge, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Ashland, Wisconsin.

Charles was born, on July 25, 1918, in Highbridge, Wisconsin, the son of Charles and Harriet (Justice) Woodward. As a young man, he served in the CCC Camps. He and Dorothy M. Schlies were united in marriage, on June 21, 1939.

Chuck served in the United States Army, during World War II, from 1944 to 1948. As a Third Class Tech Sergeant, he served with the 771st Tank Battalion.

After the war, he worked in the Ashland area: as a shop foreman at B & M Garage, Bodine's Marina and Wallie Motor. He retired in 1980.He was an avid Ham Radio operator. He also enjoyed the out of doors: hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved his family.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Dorothy, with whom he spent 57 wonderful years; his parents, Charles and Harriet; his sister, Fern Larvey and his brother, James Tyndall.

Chuck is survived by: his daughter, Lynn Broeniman and her husband, David, of Highbridge; three grandchildren: Ryan Broeniman and his wife, Gina, of Mellen, Wisconsin; Kristi Broeniman and her husband, Jody Lutz, of Mellen; Amy Peters and her husband, Corey, of Mellen; two great grandchildren: Kyle Broeniman and Ellie Mae Peters, both of Mellen; many nieces and nephews.

His visitation, at the Saint Anthony Catholic Church, in Highbridge, will be on Saturday, March 28, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

A Mass of Christian Burial, for Chuck Woodward, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, in Highbridge. Father Dean Buttrick will officiate. His casket bearers include: Ronald Pfeffer, Duane Pfeffer, Jr., Richard Schlies, Robert Schlies, Paul Schlies, Rod Schlies.

Interment in the Mount Hope Cemetery, in Highbridge, will follow the Mass. Military honors will be conducted by Copper Falls VFW Post #2273, of Mellen.

Our Mellen Chapel has been entrusted with the honor of assisting Chucks family with the details of his planned memorialization events.
