On December 9th, Frank Edward Bonura, Sr., 91, completed his journey on earth and is now reunited with loved ones and his Creator. He will be deeply missed and remembered by family and friends. Frank was born in Beaumont, Texas, on November 28, 1920, where he grew up in a loving and lively Italian household. He served combat duty in World War II, as a Sargent in the US Army Air Force, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal as an Aerial Engineer Gunner in B-17 and B-29 bombers. He was a proud Veteran, receiving an Air Medal with two clusters, the Southwest Pacific Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with four battle stars. In recent years, he spoke often about his time in the military. Over the years, he owned two small businesses and held several career positions, but his passion was editing and publishing small town newspapers. He enjoyed reading, writing stories, sailing and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank F. Bonura and Annie Lee Bonura; step-mother, Ruby Bonura; brother, Jerry Lynn Bonura; sisters, Mae Elizabeth Bunt Bonura and Mary Louise Meyers. A private memorial service, honoring Frank's life, was held in Rockdale, Texas. Beaumont Enterprise, December 12, 2011
