Lorena E. Brockington, nee Baker, age 70, of O'Fallon, Illinois departed this life on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness.

Lorena was born in Manhattan, Kansas on November 3, 1935. She was the third of nine children born to Jesse and Lucille Baker.

She was educated in Manhattan Public Schools and graduated from Manhattan High School in 1953. She attended Kansas State University and Brown Business College in Salina, Kansas.

On August 14, 1955 she married Clifton F. Brockington, who served in the United States Air Force for 27 years. He preceded her in death on February 28, 1997.

As a military wife, Lorena established homes for her family not only in Kansas, but also in South Carolina, California, Nevada, and Alaska before moving to Scott Air Force Base in 1972. She has been a resident of O'Fallon since 1979.

Lorena worked as a secretary in the superintendent's office for the Mascoutah School District and retired from the Belleville Area Special Services Cooperative in 1994. She was a volunteer for the Scott AFB youth bowling leagues and after her retirement, she served as a volunteer at the O'Fallon Public Library for several years beginning in 1996. Lorena was a skilled seamstress and shared her talents with Swan's Court in Belleville and area churches.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Jesse E. Baker, and two brothers, Jesse E. Baker, Jr. and Wayne Baker.

She leaves behind to honor her memory two children, Melanie Brockington; Kevin Brockington; one granddaughter, Tierney Bradley; her mother Lucille Baker; three sisters, Dr. Ellen Griffin; Dr. Laverne Baker; and Carole Wiley; three brothers, David, Wendell, and Ray Baker; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and other relatives, along with numerous friends across the country.

Funeral Service at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, O'Fallon.

Memorial Donations may be made to O'Fallon Public Library and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Interment will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
