From the Faribault Daily News, Aug. 30, 1954:

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Amelia Starz, on August 24, in Bierman's Funeral chapel and at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, her former home. The Rev. Ivar Ramseth officiated the service here and the Rev. Muenkel in Zumbrota. Interment was in Zumbrota. Amalia A. Kalass was born, near Prior Lake on January 10, 1864, to Christian and Sophia Kalass. When she was three years old she moved with her parents near Zumbrota. On April 17, 1888 she was married in Zumbrota to John Starz. They farmed near there until 1921 when they moved into town. Mr. Starz passed away in 1939 and since then Mrs. Starz made her home with her daughter, Mrs. G. C. VanSlyke and made visits to her children in Zumbrota. She had been in failing health for several years. Mrs. Starz was a member of Christ church in Zumbrota and of the ladies aid of the church. She is suvived by two daughters, Mrs. VanSlyke (Rose) of Northfield, Mrs. P. A. Olson (Luella) of Zumbrota and one son, Harry, of Zumbrota. She leaves six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mary Kolbe of Red Wing a sister, and Ed Starz of Zumbrota, a brother-in-law, also survive. Mrs. Starz, 90 passed away on Friday, August 20. Mrs. B. R. Biorn sang at the service in the chapel and Mrs. Walter Banitt was soloist at the church. Pallbeareres were six nephews: Herbert Starz of Faribault, E. C. Kalass, Edward Starz, H. E. Kalass, A. J. Kalass, and C. A. Kalass all of Zumbrota. A number of Northfield friends and relatives attended the services in Zumbrota.
