George and Sarah met at the Episcopal Church because he was the choir director and she was a member of the choir.

George Neilson was thirty-seven and Sarah Gilbert Barnes was twenty-one when they married in October 18, 1904 in Baltimore County, Maryland.

The 1910 census revealed George was a superintendent of the Balto Bargain House and they were living in District 9, Baltimore County, Maryland. They owned their house free of mortgage. This was his second marriage and her first. Sarah and her father were born in Maryland and her mother was born in New York. They had been married five years, had two children and both still living. Household members: George P (43), Sarah G (26), his children: Elizabeth (18), Katherine (16), Walter (14), their children: Dorothy (4), Sarah (2) and servant, Margarete Jones (18).

The 1920 census revealed George was a superintendent of wholesale dry goods and they were living in Baltimore Ward 27, Baltimore County, Maryland. Household members: George (52), Sarah (34), his children: Elizabeth (27), Katherine (25), Walter (24), their children: Dorothy (14), Sarah (11), George Jr. (1/12) and Sarah's widowed mother, Emma L. Barnes (66).

The 1930 census revealed George wasn't a veteran and he was retired. Their real estate value was $20,000 and they owned a radio. Household members: George (63), Sarah (46), Sarah (22) and George Jr. (10).

The 1940 census revealed their real estate value was $12,000. They still lived at West 40th Street in Baltimore City as in 1935. George completed eleventh grade, Sarah completed eighth grade and George Jr. completed two years of college. Household members: George (73), Sarah (56) and George Jr. (20).

They had been married forty-seven years when George died on Nov 20, 1951 in Baltimore, Marylad.

After her husband died and the children were grown, she moved to the nearby Wyman Park Apartments. Sometime later, she moved to Wesley Manor Apartments in Jacksonville, Florida to be near her daughter, Dorothy and family.

Sarah suffered a broken hip from a fall and not long after, she died in 1974.

Death Record revealed Sarah was born on October 24, 1883 and died in June 1974 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida.
