Mallie Allen Mercer, age 93, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012, at HPH Hospice Citrus Care Center in Inverness, Fla.
She was born Feb. 19, 1919, in Dungannon, Va., to Lawson and Della (Bellamy) Allen. She came here 51 years ago from Johnson City, Tenn. She was co-owner of Mercer Music and the first Radio Shack in Crystal River from 1967 to 1986. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Marion Mercer, on March 13, 2000; one brother, Tom Matson; and one sister, Helen Blevins.
Surviving are her son, Robert Mercer (Linda), of Winston Salem, N.C.; and three daughters, Marian Leaphart of Fruitland Park, Fla., Judith MacCallum (Roger) of Inverness, Fla., and Terri Mullins (Marvin) of Crystal River, Fla.; one brother, Jim Matson (Yvonne), of Maryland; three sisters, Mildred Boyd (Shelby), and Mary Fann, both of Johnson City, Tenn., and Nita Milam of Kingsport, Tenn.; grandchildren, Lisa Tindall, Ginny Spyker (Bill), Jon Leaphart (Glenda), Joey Moseley, Robert Mercer, Richard Mercer (Christina), Rebecca Woodard (Bob), Robert MacCallum (Barbara), William MacCallum (Linnea), Barrett MacCallum (Jennifer), Melissa McCollough (Rick), Trace Mullins (Jenna), Amanda Joplin (Matt), and Matthew Mullins; 18 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Crystal River, Fla., with Pastors Charles Robertson, William MacCallum and Matthew Mullins officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. The family suggests that those who wish may send flowers or make a memorial contribution to HPH Hospice; envelopes will be provided at the service.
