Bonnie Lea Bowman was the Daughter of Robert Leo Bowman and Ruth Ann Marshall who were married in Henry County, Indiana on December 18, 1926. Bonnie lived, for the majority of her life, about ten miles from where she was born, that is Greens Fork, Wayne County, Indiana.

Bonnie married three times. She was divorced from her last Husband at the time of her death. Bonnie is buried with her second Husband, Herman Howard Schmidt.

Bonnie's first Husband was Gene Oval Barnett, Son of Lonus H. Barnett and Zelda (or Zella) Thomas. Bonnie and Gene were married sometime before 1958, according to City Directory Records.

Bonnie and Gene had four children together, all sons. They are:

Darrell Barnett

Gary Barnett

Randy Barnett

Rick Barnett

Bonnie and Gene divorced on January 12, 1972 in Summit County, Ohio (according to Gene's marriage license to his second Wife).

Bonnie married Herman Howard Schmidt, sometime after the date of her divorce and 1974, in Indiana. Bonnie's parents were living in Richmond, Indiana, at the time. Herman and Bonnie moved their blended family from Akron, Ohio to Centerville, Indiana and raised, over a period of years, seven children. Bonnie's and Herman's family attended the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Indiana on a bi-weekly basis. Herman eventually became a Deacon of the Church and Bonnie, on a regular basis, played the piano and led singing for the congregation.

Bonnie developed cancer of the pancreas and was not expected to live. Miraculously, partially because of Herman's good care of her, Bonnie survived chemotherapy and radiation. Her hair fell out and she wore scarves to cover her baldness. She never stopped taking care of herself during this time and continued wearing makeup and dressing herself well in order to try to have a sense of normality in her life. Herman told me, on several occasions, that he had to spoon feed her because of the effects that the chemo and radiation had on her body

The marriage, ironically, ended on January 13, 1988, when Herman was killed in a vehicular accident in Pennsylvania. Eventually, after a lawsuit was filed on the family's behalf, money would be awarded to the family.

After Herman's death, Bonnie married William Albert Grubbs, son of William Garfield Grubbs and Sarah Margaret Runyon. Almost unbelievably, William and Bonnie were married and divorced twice in Wayne County, Indiana. Bonnie, at the time of her death, was divorced from William. She was laid to rest with her second Husband, Herman Howard Schmidt.
