Sarah was the wife of Charles J. Hannigan and the daughter of William and Lavina Jones Davis. She and Charles married on 12 December 1917 in Maumee, Ohio. Sarah had been previously married to Albert Alden on June 28, 1868 in Lucas County, and had Ellen Gertrude, Albert Wilbur, Fenella Evelyn, and Mary Lavina. Sarah died from uterine cancer at the age of 70 years 1 month and 28 days.
