NEWPORT NEWS - Patricia Louise Morris Bennington, 68, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Rockbridge County, Va., and resident of Newport News for 45 years. Patricia retired from NCI at NASA Langley as a system analyst, after 10 years of service, where she had received numerous honors and awards. She was a former member of Grace Baptist Church and attended Olivet Christian Church. Patricia was a 1961 graduate of Lexington High School.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herman R. Morris Sr.; brother, Herman R. Morris Jr.; aunt, Buelah Morris; granddaughter, Isabella Alexis Bennington; and nephew, Larry Dwayne Chaplin.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Roy A. Bennington Sr.; daughter, Robin L. Bennington Ellis and husband, Christopher; son, Roy A. Bennington Jr. and his wife, Mia; two grandchildren, Karissa S. Ellis, Courtney L. Ellis; nieces and nephews, Jason Lee Morris, Erin Rogers, Susan Lynn Chaplin, Christopher McClung Chaplin; several great nieces, nephews; cousins, Shelia Stanley, Debbie Vankirk, Charlie Siron; and special friend, Debbie Tyree.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Personal Touch; and the nursing staff of five West/OICU at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 6 p.m. Monday, June 18, at Peninsula Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor David Willis. The family will receive friends following the service until 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Peninsula S.P.C.A, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601; or the Alzheimer's Association , Southeastern Virginia Chapter, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
