Benjamin Newton "Bud" Gibson, aged 86, of Parkersburg, died at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital Thursday evening, September 19.

He was born near Burning Springs, Wirt County, June 18, 1888, the son of the late Jasper Newton and Margaret Isabelle Deviese Gibson, and was a well liked and active businessman of Wirt County for most of his life, having moved to Parkersburg for the past several retired years.

He had been a merchant at Burning Springs, later in Elizabeth, owned local business property, and was a veteran of World War I, a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Parkersburg; Wirt Post No. 55, The American Legion; Council No. 33, J. Order of United American Mechanics, Palestine; and was a 50-year member of Burning Springs Lodge No. 132, AF & AM.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Belva Hickman Gibson; a son, Warren Chase Gibson, of Parkersburg; four step-daughters, Juanita Channell and Ruth Coe, both of Elizabeth, Geraldine Snider, West Chester, Pa., and Edna Cutlip, China Grove, N.C.; a sister, Mrs. Grace C. Woodyard, of Vienna; a grandson, David Gibson, of Parkersburg; 14 step-grandchilden, and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Blanche Chase Gibson.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Vaughan Funeral Home in Parkersburg, and interment followed at the Elizabeth K. of P. Cemetery, with graveside rites being conducted by the Burning Springs Masonic Lodge.
