Per Georgia Death Index: Brooks STRINGFELLOW, White male, died 16 JUL 1961, aged 76 years in Muscogee County, Georgia, as a resident of the same county, death certificate #19143.
While the 1940 federal census appears to show his name as Brooks S. STRINGFELLOW, FindAGrave Contributor #47603872 "Anonymous" reports: "There is indeed what appears to be a block "S" after Brooks on the 1940 census. However, I imagine the census taker would have written a middle initial in cursive as he wrote the other capital S's. So, I do not believe the enumerator intended whatever that is to be construed as a middle initial. In any case, my grandfather did not have a middle name or initial. Rufus Stringfellow, my father's last half-sibling, confirmed that when George Thomas Stringfellow and I visited him in 2005 in Talbotton. According to Brooks' WWI Draft Registration Card, which he filled out and signed, Brooks was born May 1, 1885. [I and members of my family] all attended Grandfather's funeral. I was 15 at the time. I do not think I still have a copy of Brooks' death certificate, but he died July 16, 1961."
Physical description on second page of World War I draft registration card reports that he was of medium height and slight build, with black eyes and black hair, and that he was physically disqualified from service.
