From the Ogden Standard Examiner:

LAYTON - Melvin Dee Bair passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Davis Hospital, after a short complication of Pulmonary Fibrosis.

He was born March 29, 1933 in Hyrum, Utah to Melvin Doris and Lela Fern McBride Bair.

He was the second of five children, preceded in death by parents, sisters, Gerial Dean (Roy) Solt and Kathryn Fern (George) Gamble, both of Salt Lake City, and survived by two sisters, Carol (Tom) Brown of West Bountiful and Joylyn (Joe) Dixon of West Point.

Melvin married Anita G. Couvee Porteous on December 30, 1975 in Layton, Utah. Anita had four children from a previous marriage, Helen (Tom) Simmons, Marilyn (Ron) Graham, both of Ontario, Canada; Glen Porteous of B.C., Canada, and Robert Porteous of Sunset, Utah.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and retired from Hill Air Force Base.

The last 14 months were spent living at Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield, Utah, where he enjoyed meeting many new friends and participating in activities provided. We would like to thank all the staff of Chancellor Gardens for their loving care.

He was a gentle, caring, loving, genuinely nice guy, who enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, metal detecting, and wood-working.

Melvin will truly be missed and forever loved. We are so thankful for the time we have shared.

Friends may visit family on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden.
