He was born in Greensboro, N.C., and was a former lieutenant commander and Navy pilot. He lived in
Norfolk from 1948-1982 and was the former owner of Snelling & Snelling Employment Agency in Virginia Beach for 15 years. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1982.
He is survived by one son, Erle H. Austin III of Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Claudia A. Straw of
Clearwater, Fla., Stuart A. Nimmich of Summerville, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. today at John S. Rhodes Funeral Home, East Chapel, St. Petersburg,
Fla.
