Jamie Everett Cooper, 89 of the Figsboro Community, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at his home.

Born July 2, 1918, he was the son of the late Peter Benjamin Cooper and Maude Cummings Cooper. He was the grandson of the late Dr. James David Cooper also a school teacher and Mary Frances France Cooper and Dr. Woodson Riley Cummings who was a Primitive Baptist Minister and Elizabeth Hauchins Cummings. Both grandfathers were Civil War Veterans.

In addition to his parents and grandparents he was preceeded in death by a sister Glenna C. Bell and two brothers Johnnie Pete Cooper and Lonnie W. Cooper.

Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife of 69 years, Frances Martin Cooper of the residence; two daughters, Judith C. Owen of Martinsville and Stephany C. Simpson and husband Henry Simpson of Roanoke; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a brother Carl W. Cooper of Martinsville and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cooper was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Cabaona destroyer escort in the Pacific. He served as trustee of the Primitive Baptist Assistance Inc. and was a trustee of the Signs Of The Times since 1985. He was a member of Reed Creek Primitive Baptist Church since July 11, 1940 having served as clerk since 1947 and deacon since 1955. He served as clerk of the Pigg River Association from August 3, 1979 until 2004. He retired from E. I. DuPont with 33 ½ years service. He previously had volunteer at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County for 10 years and was employed by Norris Funeral Services And Crematory.
