KERNERSVILLE, NC ~ Mr. John William Starbuck, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at the Nursing Center at Oak Summit. He was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Stokes County, the son of the late William Lacy and Lula Parham Starbuck. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Germany. He retired from Roadway Trucking Co. Mr. Starbuck was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and attended Snow Hill United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Augusta Blair Starbuck. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Frye Starbuck; two sons, John W. Starbuck and wife Patricia and Philip B. Starbuck and wife Jane, all of Kernersville; a stepdaughter, Sondra Parlier and husband Alvin of Ridgeway, Va.; two stepsons, Archie Frye and wife Kaye of Lawsonville and Wayne Frye and wife Victoria of King; three grandchildren, Greg Starbuck and wife April of Kernersville, Maria Crawford and husband Tim of Pfafftown and Chris Starbuck of Winterville; several stepgrandchildren; and great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, by the Rev. David Childress at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, Aug. 15, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
