Mary Cook (aka Mary Clark) often went by Muzzie amongst family members. She and her baby brother, Frank, were abandoned by their parents on a trip to the west. Frank was adopted and Muzzie was allowed to join him in the same family.

She married Truman Hale Lavenburg and had three children: Hulda Delores (1888-1980), Walter Ellsworth (1891-1968( and Laura Bell (1893-1930).
