Life Legacy

Curtis Owen Powell, son of Frank and Alice (Blood) Powell, was born on August 5, 1940 in Brandon, SD. He grew up in Garretson, SD and graduated from Garretson High School in 1958. He then proceeded with his music career.

Curt was an avid guitarist. He had the opportunity to play in several well known local bands as well as national bands. Curt had the pleasure of traveling throughout the United States and Canada performing to different audiences. His last gig was at the Touch Of Europe in downtown Sioux Falls.

Curt enjoyed playing with his dogs, Sparky and Sheena, which were his life outside of music. He also enjoyed writing music and spending time with his musician friends.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Lorinda Humphrey and her husband, Jim, Milford, IA; two grandchildren; five sisters, Doris Hoiland, Sioux Falls, SD, Phyllis Mehus, Sioux Falls, SD, Audrey Nelson and her husband, Sid, Albert Lee, MN, Darlene Reit, Dell Rapids, SD, Artis Hoiland, Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Merle Powell, Sioux Falls, SD, Kenneth Powell, Luverne, MN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.
