Mrs. Rose A. (Morosco) DeKime, age 93, of Utica, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Siegenthaler Center with her loving family by her side.

Rose was born in Utica on March 16, 1919, the daughter of the late Thomas J., Sr. and Rosina "Rose" (Vigna) Morosco. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School.

On June 6, 1946, she wed Vincent "James" DeKime with whom she shared 18 years in a loving and enduring union until his passing on November 18, 1964.

During her working days, Rose held a position at the State Office Building and for over 20 years had affiliations in various retail businesses. Intrepid and independent by nature, Rose was not afraid to be assertive. She was strong-willed and determined and held a tremendous inner strength. She reinforced to her children that there is no such word as "can't". She was also selfless and socially outgoing, and she loved to have company. Her hospitable and loving ways lined the pathway to her house which was the center of all family gatherings. She enjoyed visiting with her family and sharing special times with her grandchildren. She was also blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. She was an avid reader, a fan of horror movies, and a seasoned cook of Italian cuisine.

She was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge #2054 and a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Rose is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia R. and Stephen T. Zajac, and Bridget A. and Peter V. Todaro, all of Houston, Texas; her grandchildren, Christian J. Zajac and his wife Lorraine, Sabrae Lynn Zajac, Matthew T. Zajac and his wife Marissa, and Peter V. Todaro and his wife Rebecca, all of Houston; and her great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Macen, Colby, and Arissa Zajac; Saxon, Daniel, Carmine, Rocco, and Angelina Todaro. She also leaves behind her sister, Lillian Morosco of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws John and Lenora DeKime, and Jennie Morosco.
