Mr. Solon Richard Borders, 73, of Newnan, Ga., died peacefully at home on June 13, 2012, after a long battle with leukemia.

A native of Coweta County, he was born at home on September 10, 1938, to the late Marvin Franklin Borders and Berlie Gillespie Borders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Robert Borders, and granddaughter, Lindsey Riggs.

He received his early education in Newnan and received his undergraduate and master's degrees at West Georgia University. Solon taught in the Coweta County School System for 35 years, until his retirement. Solon was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Sylvan Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Willa Dean Blair Borders; daughters and their husbands, Kim and Mark Riggs, Kay and Brian Lewis, and Kelly and Allen Loftin; a son and his wife, Britt and Paige Borders; grandson and his wife, Matt and Jennifer Riggs; grandchildren, Blair and Brooks Borders, Harrison, March and Willa Loftin, and Sam Lewis; great-grandson, Grayson Riggs.

Visitation will be Thursday June 14 between 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 15 in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Craig Jackson and Matt Riggs officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Roscoe Road. Honoring Solon's wishes, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Lindsey Riggs Memorial Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 71774, Newnan, GA 30271-1774.
