Born "in Grafschaft on the road to Rohrbach" in Germany, Franciscus arrived in Philadelphia in September 1710 aboard the ship Mary Hope. His first wife's name is unknown, but about 1718, in Lancaster County, he married Anna Margaretha Schwab, a native of Sinscheim, Germany. Nine children were born to them, even as they became substantial landowners. Many Americans with the name Franciscus, Francisco, or Cisco trace their ancestry to these immigrants. "Olde Chris" and his wife were initially buried in the churchyard of the First Reformed Church on Orange Street in Lancaster. In 1870 the churchyard was abolished and remains were removed to the Lancaster Cemetery. The authors of THE HOUSE OF FRANCISCUS describe this founder of the family as "a hard living, hard driving man who decided what he wanted and then went after it!"
