Capt. Robert Knox was the son of John Knox and Jane Robinson. He first married Jane Stevenson at Cat Tail Branch, Frederick Co., MD, in 1804. After her death, he took Elizabeth (Betsey) Chamberlain, the daughter of Ninian Chamberlain (1751-1833) and Elizabeth Ewing (1767-1855), of Cayuga Co., NY, as his second wife in 1830. (Robert and Jane moved to Scipio, Cayuga Co., NY, some time in the first decade of the 19th century, as did Betsey's father, Ninian Chamberlain, who had apparently known the Stevenson family--and perhaps the Knoxes as well--when he lived in York Co., PA, which borders on Frederick Co., MD.)
