Michael E. Moes, Sr., 82, of Bettendorf, formerly of Tipton, died Friday evening, March 9, 2002, in Genesis Medical Center West, Davenport, from head injuries suffered while enjoying his daily walk. Walking was one of Mike's favorite pastimes. Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today. Father Eugene Benda will officiate. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Tipton, with military rites by the Clarence American Legion. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine; two sons, Michael Jr. and wife Elaine of Tipton and Loren and wife Rose of Anamosa; three daughter, Marcia Hover and husband Don of Prescott, Wis., Michele Askren and husband Chuck of Hartland, Wis., and Cynthia Lavin and husband Owen of Denver, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Janice Strackbein and husband Kent of Lowden and Deborah Harm and husband Clint of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mary Kelchen of Cascade; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anna Leesekamp Moes; his wife, Patricia Lynch Moes, who died Feb. 14, 1981; a brother, John Moes; a sister, Helen Janssen; and a stepson, Duane Fritton.
Mike was born March 21, 1919, near Cascade. He attended Richland Township School in Jones County. He served in the U.S. Army as a technical sergeant during World War II. Mike was married to Patricia E. Lynch on May 20, 1946. In 1984, he was united in marriage to Maxine B. Conway at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Mike was a member of the Clarence American Legion and was a former member of the Cedar County Farm Bureau.
