Mr. Adkins was born on August 28, 1930 in Danville, a son of the late Garrett Adkins and the late Bertha Amos Adkins. He had lived in Danville most of his life where he was employed by ARA Food Services as a manager for many years. He was the last survivor of his generation. He had served in the US Army during the Korea War. He was a member of American Legion Post #325. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was first married to Virginia Strader Adkins, who predeceased him and later married Janice Farthing Kowitz Adkins on June 21, 1998, who survives.

In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived one daughter, Melinda Bowling and husband, Ricky of Danville, one son, Howard H. Kowitz and wife, D'Ann of Danville.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Adkins and Hope Jeanette Wallace.
