States in his pension declaration he was hiding in a barn from the British in New Jersey and then " captured 1000 Hessians" was with General Washington at Battle of Trenton, Dec 1776, when they "captured 1000 Hessians". When asked who was his commander at the Battle of Trenton he replied "The only Commander at the Battle of Trenton I remember ---General Washington, and I spoke with General Washington often".
Was in Colonel Patton's Battalion, Captain Lesher's Company,Berks County Pa 1776(Source: Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume V ,(1906), Muster Rolls relating to the Associators and Militia of the County or Berks, page 149-150) -page 150 Privates include Baltzer Houtz.
In Baltzer's pension at the end of that 3 months tour in Berks County Militia, he says he enlisted in the Company called the "Flying Camp", and went to New Jersey.
Was substitute for his brother Jacob in 1777 in Captain Battorf's company, Third Class lists Baltzer Houtz(Source:Pennsylvania Archives, Third Series, Vol VI, (1896)page 319.
