Mr. Henry Thurston Bell

Henry Thurston Bell, 77, of Newnan, died at the U.S. Veterans Hospital in Decatur Friday.


He was born in Fort Payne, Ala., to W.H. and Dera Bell in 1924. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Rome, Ga., where he grew up and attended schools.


After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. His first assignment was aboard a destroyer bound for the Pacific, but he was reassigned as an ROTC cadet to submarine sonar school at the University of South Carolina.


While at the university, he met his future wife, Mary D. Coleman. After the military, they moved to Rome where he became a self-employed master watchmaker and repairman.


He moved to Orlando, Fla., in 1968 and continued his trade. In 2000, he moved to Newnan to be near his daughters. An avid golfer and tennis player, his first priority in life was his family. He will be remembered and respected as a loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Mary Coleman Bell and a grandson, Drew Collins.


Survivors include two daughters, Donna Bradshaw and husband George, and Lisa Zamborsky and husband Joe, all of Newnan; a brother, Gene Bell of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Aileen Elliott of Monticello, Fla.; three grandchildren, Dave Collins and wife Melissa of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Aaron Allred of Atlanta, and Anna Zamborsky of Newnan; one great-grandchild; nieces; nephews and friends.


The family plans a private memorial service at a later date. Jones Funeral Home of Newnan.
