Jack E. Eckman, 87, of Roaring Spring died Friday evening at his apartment at Homewood at Martinsburg.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late John F. and Vera (Gates) Eckman. He married Doris M. "Doote" Bassler on July 23, 1944, in Barnesboro. She died Sept. 16, 2005.
He is survived by a son, George W. Eckman and wife, Libby, of Roaring Spring; two grandchildren: Heather Brozenich and husband, Richard, of Duncansville and Brady Eckman and wife, Bobbi, of Martinsburg; three great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Evan Brozenich and Aubry Eckman; and a sister, Jane Detwiler of East Freedom.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Drew Eckman.
Jack was a member of the Bare Memorial Church of God, Roaring Spring.
He retired in 1987 from Appleton Papers, Roaring Spring.
He was a 1942 graduate of Roaring Spring High School.
Jack enjoyed wood carving, photography, fishing, traveling, pistol shooting and golfing with his son.
He was a life member of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Co., a charter member of the Bloody Thumbs Wood Carving Group and a member of the Woodbury Lodge F&AM, the Jaffa Shrine and the Martinsburg Sportsmen's Club.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday by Pastor Mark Halliday. Interment will follow at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack's memory may be given to the Roaring Spring Community Library.
