Born in Lancaster he was a son of the late Averil L. and Fern C. (Smith) Sourbeer. Dick retired after 35 years as a firefighter with Lancaster City. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Guys & Dolls, Park City Twalkers and proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending summers at Crystal Beach Manor in Maryland and his grandchildren were his pride and the joy of his life.
In addition to his wife Rose Marie, he is survived by a son Richard T. Sourbeer husband of Donna of Lancaster; three grandchildren Kelly, wife of Jeffrey Harman of Mountville, PA, Daniel Sourbeer of Middletown, PA and Randall Sourbeer of Glen Burnie, MD. Dick was preceded in death by four sisters Catherine Mull, Margaret Kirchner, Dorothy Jane Weaver and Violet Mae Sourbeer and two brothers Averil L. "Jim" Sourbeer, Jr. and Terry Sourbeer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11AM from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA 17603 with Fr. Allan F. Wolfe as celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA with military honors provided by the Red Rose Honor Guard and Vet 21 Salute. A viewing will be held one hour prior to his funeral mass at the church.
