Obituary, from the Wheatland, Wyoming, Record-Times, Wednesday?, 23? Nov 1932:
JOHN THOMAS BRAWNER—John T. Brawner, a member of the Sebern community for the past 22 years, passed away at his home Monday, November 21st, at the age of 82 years. He had been in failing health for a number of years. Funeral services were held from the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. Tonkin of Veteran preaching the funeral sermon. Interment took place in the Wheatland Cemetery, with the Longwith-Richards Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. John Thomas Brawner, son of Basil and Sarah Brawner, was born at Chattam, Ill. The earlier part of his boyhood was spent at Chattam, later moving with his parents to a farm near Knoxville, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. When about 30 years of age, he united with the Presbyterian church of Newbern, Iowa, and remained a faithful member ever since. In 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hunerdasse [sic]. To this union were born four children, Edith, Herschel, Alpha, and Martha, all of whom survive their father, and 13 grandchildren also survive, and 3 great-grandchildren. In 1910, Mr. and Mrs. Brawner and two children, Herschel and Martha, moved to Wyoming, where they took a homestead near the old Lakeview post office, being one of the earliest settlers in that part of the county. Mr. Brawner was the eldest of a family of 13 children, being survived by one sister, Minnie of Wilcox, Nebr., and two brothers, Ora of Wilcox and Newt of Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Brawner have both been in failing health for several years, and have been faithfully been cared for by their son Herschel and wife, who have made their home with them. Mr. Brawner was a kind and loving father and husband, and their Sebern neighbors and friends feel the deepest sympathy for the bereaved family.
Note: he died of influenza.
