Lillian Jardine "Mitzi" Payne, 61, of Jefferson City, Missouri, died Saturday evening, June 13, 1993 at St. Mary's Health Center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Buescher Memorial Home in Jefferson City with the Rev. Chris A.E. Bottoff officiating. Interment was in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Lillian Jardine "Mitzi" Payne was born March 23, 1932 in Paola, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest Robert and Reba Marion Sherman Thompson. She graduated from Boonville High School in 1950. On May 30, 1951, she married George Forest Payne in Boonville. He survives. Mrs. Payne had attended Lincoln University where she received a bachelor of science degree in special education. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Schubert, Missouri. She was an avid quilter, gardener and antique furniture restorer. She was a homemaker, and had also been employed as a schoolteacher at Jefferson City Public Schools and Cole R-5 School in Eugene, Missouri.

Surviving are three sins, Robert Allan Payne of Cupertino, California, Shawn Michael Payne of Charleston, South Carolina, and 2nd Lt. Timothy Marion Payne , United States Army, Hanau, Germany, one daughter, Susan Jardine Richey of Tyrone, Georgia, her mother Reba Marion Sherman Thompson of Jefferson City, Missouri, two brothers, Ernest Robert Thompson, Jr., of Girardeau, Kansas, and Richard Allan Thompson of Jefferson City, Missouri, one sister, Maurine Thompson Rootes of Decatur, Georgia, and two grandchildren.
