Leonard L. Starrett, 54, of 4236 W. Cleveland, was killed Sunday morning when struck by lightning while playing golf near Plymouth.
He was club manager of Post 303 American Legion.
Born on June 24, 1920, in Warsaw, he had lived here most of his life.
On Oct 1, 1966, in South Bend, he married Judith Talbot, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Dennis K. of Mishawaka, four stepsons, Donald Bowen of Austin, Ind . Robert F. Bowen of Mishawaka, and Michael Howlett and Patrick Mathewson, both at home; two daughters Mrs. Susan Eves of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Cynthia Erskine of Coldwater, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Dani Marie Howlett of Mishawaka; 14 grandchildren; a half brother, Floyd Matchett of Tampa, Fla., and two half sisters, Mrs. Mabel Gill of Mishawaka and Mrs. Thelma Stuntz of Evening Shade, Ark.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Congregational Church Rev. L. Paul Harris, pastor will officiate.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from To 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Chapel, 52803 U.S. 31 N.
He was second vice president, member of the board of directors and delegate of Post 303, American Legion; past president of the White Sox Fan club and a member of Post 360 VFW, Mishawaka, South Bend Conservation Club; the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Mishawaka Moose Lodge.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
