Virgie Taylor was a Loving daughter, wife, mother, grandma and great grandma. Virgie was 89 years old, and after a lengthy illness on a Saturday afternoon, she passed away surrounded by her family at her daughter's home in North Salinas, Califonia.
Virgie was born in Cherry Valley, Arkansas, the second-oldest child. She attended schools there and worked with her siblings on the family farm until the age of 18 when she married a young up-and-coming farmer, Marvin Taylor. A few years later, in 1943, she and her husband decided to sell the family farm and move with their children to California where the sun was said to always shine and the work was plentiful. One additional child was born and they lived in Salinas from that point forward.
When her children were older Virgie worked in the agricultural industry. She worked for a number of produce companies, including the Garin Company, Lettuce Pack and finally, with Pacific Fruit Express until she retired.
Virgie and her husband, Marvin, were very active in the local church community, and they were instrumental in founding the consolidation of the First Assembly Church of God church in Salinas. She was the oldest living charter member of the church when she passed away.
Virgie was an avid reader and Bible scholar. She became an ordained minister in her earlier years. She taught Sunday School for many years, was a leader in the women's missionary group and women's Bible study. She and her husband maintained a visitation ministry for the ill and held church services for the local senior convalescent community. For a number of years they also sang in a locally popular quartet and performed in various churches and at funerals.
Virgie was a loving and compassionate person who dedicated much of her life to helping others and she gained many friends during her lifetime. She was a vibrant and very active person until she became ill. Virgie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years in June 2000; two children, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.
