He married Gussie Helmus in Brooklyn, NY on 17 Jun 1911.
S. Frank Bartol owned a bus company which may have consisted of a single open air vehicle. He also owned rental apartments which may have consisted of a single unit on the lower level of the house he owned.
He did own a vacation cottage on Staten Island that he built himself from a pre-fab kit he purchased.
He had an Irish immigrant tenant who was fond of drink and raucous parties with dancing and merrymaking that shook the chandelier in Frank’s upstairs unit. The man lost his job and stopped paying rent. Frank found out that the tenant’s wife was pregnant, and could not bring himself to evict the family.
Frank’s daughter Dorothy developed Scarlet Fever as a child and resisted the standard treatment of the time of having her head shaved. Frank arrived home one day with his head shaved to entreat his daughter.
Frank developed Encephalitis Lethargica, aka Sleeping Sickness. It was a pandemic and swept the world between 1915 and 1926. He was never the same afterward. He was said to sit and start at the radio for hours. This may have contributed to the loss of his bus company and home & rental property.
He subsequently died of a heart complaint in 1938. He was buried on 16 Apr 1938.
