Mr. Miller had lost his father, Samuel S. Miller of Elkhart County, IN, at a young age, but he had been raised in the farm family of his uncle, George S. Miller, of Mason Township, Cass County, MI. As Catherine Girt's farm manager, William lived on his own forty acre farm across the road. He never married, but he seemed to be accepted and enjoyed by Ella and Catherine. Sometime between 1900 and 1910 Catherine Girt sold her farm and moved to Three Oaks to live with her daughter, Ella, and son-in-law, Dix Beeson, and their children, Paul, Lois and Helen. Soon the family invited Mr. Miller to join them in Three Oaks, seeing that he was alone in the world and not in the best of health. He lived with the Beeson family for seven years until he was tragically hit and killed by a train, August 19, 1911. Without the newspaper article which reported this tragedy, we would never know that William Frederick Miller is buried with the Beeson family, seeing that his grave is unmarked.
