John Smith Elder was the 4th son of George Elder and Barbara Smith. He had 10 brothers and sisters. Another large and boistrous family in Huntingdon. He married Newton Rebecca Buckham on March 27, 1878 in Hinchinbrook. To this union were born three children: Janet Smaill, George Peter Smith and Andrew William Buckham.
