Austin Edwarad "Ducky" Abrecht Sr., 64 of 104 N. Main St., Woodsboro, died Tuesday, May 9, 1989, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, after an illness of one week.

Born Nov. 29, 1924, in Frederick, he was a son of the late Robert Niles and Helen Marsden Abrecht.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army 645th Replacement Company, seeing action in the Phillipines. He formerly operated the Red Man's Club and the Cozy Restaurant Corner in Frederick. He spent 43 years in the restaurant business. He and his wife were owners and operators of Ducky and Elsie's Restaurant in Woodsboro.

He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Frederick, a member of Glenn W. Eyler Post, American Legion No. 282 of Woodsboro, and for 10 yearas, served the woodsboro Sertoma Club as president and secretary. In 1976 he was named Sertomian of the Year.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie Staub Abrecht; a son, A. Edward Abrecht Jr. of Walkersville; eight stepchildren, Kathleen Manning of Yuma, Aariz., Charles E. Smith, Ray D. Smith, Preston L. Smith, all of Frederick, Lawrence E. Smith Jr. of Myersville, Betty Suthard of Lisbon, Fay Jacques of Mercersburg, Pa., and Robert L. Smith of Walkersville; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grand-children.

The funeral will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Woodsboro funeral home of D. D. Hartzler with the Rev. Maurice C. Ashbury, a former pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
