BERTHA KLINGHOLZ
(1878 - 1941)

Miss Bertha Klingholz (photo), for many years prominently identified with musical activities in this city and state, died shortly after midnight this morning at the home, 502 North 9th street. Although she had been in ill health for more than a year, her condition was not critical until a few weeks ago. She submitted to an operation late last year.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian church, the Rev. C.H. Phipps, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Frazier Mortuary Chapel. It will be moved to the church Friday noon and lie in state there until the hour of services.

Miss Klingholz was born in Manitowoc Rapids, daughter of Oscar and Matilda Klingholz. The family moved to Manitowoc and Miss Klingholz attended the northside schools and was graduated from the high school. She studied music with Miss Jessie Heineman, Mrs. Herman Schlei Schmitz and Prof. Joseph Kaiser in Manitowoc, at the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago and at the conservatory in Cologne, Germany. She studied abroad for two and a half years.

She has been teaching music in Manitowoc for many years, and for the last 12 years has been secretary of the Wisconsin Music Teachers' Association. Miss Klingholz was a charter member of the Monday Music club and one of its past presidents, organist at the First Lutheran church for several years and at the First Presbyterian church for that the last twenty years, and a member of the Manitowoc Federation of Women's Clubs, the Past Presidents' Assembly and the Lois society of the Presbyterian church. She continued active in church work until early this year.

Only survivor is a sister, Mrs. Alma K. Richardson, with whom Miss Klingholz lived.
