JACOB A. COOK
Jacob A. Cook was born at Ramsey, Ill., March 13th, 1839, and died at Neosho, Mo., Nov. 29th, 1922.
He was first married in 1858 to Miss Luvena Donaldson. To this union was born one daughter, now Mrs. Martha Cooksey of Paney, Ill. His first wife died in 1859. He came to Missouri about 1867 and in 1868 he was married to Mrs. Margaret Hodge of Bethpage, McDonald county, who died March 19, 1904. To this union were born nine children, four of whom are living, as follows; J.F. B. Cook of Stella, D. M. E. Cook of Neosho, Miss Mary Cook of Neosho and D. H. Cook of Pittsburg. Besides these children he leaves 30 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
"Uncle Jake," as he was commonly called, was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was endeared to many a household by his loving counsel and words of comfort. He was a member of the Church of Christ for fifty years; lived and died strong in the faith and teachings of the Bible. Having become very feeble he was confined to his home for the past two years, but was patient and cheerful to the last; admonishing all who came within his door to a higher and better realm of life.
The funeral services were held Thanksgiving Day and the body laid to rest in the Owsley Cemetery east of Stella which he himself helped to lay out.
