Henry "Hem" Riemersma, 73, of Sheldon died Monday, February 6, at Country View Manor in Sibley. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. February 9, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with the Rev. Gary Roozeboom officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery near Matlock.
Riemersma was born November 10, 1921, near Matlock, the son of Henry and Marie (Ver Mulm) Riemersma. He attended rural school. He entered the U. S. Army in December 1942 and served in the European Campaign during World War II. He was wounded in August 1944 in France and returned home in October 1945. He married Dorothy Sluijer January 3, 1947. The couple farmed near Matlock
until 1964, when they moved to Sheldon. He was employed by Mouw-Den Hartog Construction Co. for 18 years; at Circle K Lumber Co. for several years; the City of Sheldon for a few years; and at Hy-Vee Food Store until his health failed. He entered Country View Manor February 7, 1991. He was a member of First Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Bob and Marie and Jim and Linda, all of Sheldon; three brothers and their wives, Cornie and Marian of George. Arthur and Jean of Sioux Center and Donald and Glenda of Sheldon; a sister, Marie Buren of Sanborn; a sister-in-law, Alice Riemersma; four grandchildren; and two step grandchlldren. He was preceded In death by his parents and a brother, John "Jack.
