Leonard J. Rein, 57. of RD 6 Gifford Church Road, died yesterday at Albany Veterans Hospital after a long illness.
Born in New York City, Mr. Rein had lived in the Schenectady area 27 years. He was an auto mechanic for the General Services Administration at the Navy Depot for 26 years, retiring in 1974. Mr. Rein was a communicant of Our Lady of Assumption Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Louise Davis Rein; a son, Michael J. Rein of Vermont; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Stanbro of Elmira and Miss Cecelia Rein of Rotterdam; a brother, Charles Rein of Flushing; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Hluhenich of New Jersey; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of Assumption Church after a service at 8:30 at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. The funeral home will be open after 7 tonight.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
In the 1960's the family name was legally shortened and changed to Rein. The family is of German descent.
