Irene B. Paskvan, age 85, of Chisholm, Minn. died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm.

She was born January 1, 1910 in Gilbert, Minn. the daughter of Peter and Anna (Lukkarila) Aarni. The family settled in Gilbert after the Chisholm fire of 1908. They later moved to Buhl where she attended grade school. During her senior year, the family moved to Sebeka, Minn. where she graduated as salutatorian of the class of 1928. She also played on the girls' basketball team, which was more successful than the boys at the time. In that same year, the Paskvan family moved back to Chisholm.

She was a member of the Chisholm United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, the Degree of Honor, and a former member of the Plus 55 Club. She was an avid bridge player until she moved to Heritage Manor. Over the years, she worked for Casey Drug, Pappas Sweet Shop, at the school as a book mender, Cluett Peabody and the Time News.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Raymond Paskvan; two sisters, Ruth (C. Raymond) Lucas, Marie (William) Sedgeman; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arnold Aarni; and a sister, Mercedes Aarni.

Burial in Chisholm Cemetery.
