Jake Broyles Graveside services for Jake Broyles, 86, of San Antonio, formerly of Lamesa, will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Lamesa Memorial Park with Lee Crouch and Matthew Thompson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.

A.J. Jake Broyles was born in Barnhart, Texas, to Vivian Formwalt Broyles and A.G. Jack Broyles on Aug. 3, 1925. He passed away on June 2, 2012, in San Antonio. He was a graduate of Lamesa High School, where he was a member of the tennis and basketball teams. He served in World War II in the Pacific before attending Texas Tech University. While attending Texas Tech, he met and married Kathryn Lewis on June 27, 1947. Jake and Kathryn lived in Fort Stockton after graduating from Texas Tech University until 1978. While living in Fort Stockton, Jake served as chairman of the FSA, served on the school board, became president of the Fort Stockton school board, president of the Jaycees, worked in the Little League, and was one of the founders of the First National Bank of Fort Stockton. He was chosen Fort Stockton Outstanding Young Man and received the Distinguished Service Award in 1960. Jake and Kathryn moved back to Lamesa in 1975, where he was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. Among one of his many honors, Jake was inducted in the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor Class of 2007. He was the first Texas Tech inductee into the Hall of Honor for Tennis. Jake was also an avid golfer and won many awards for his athleticism in golf. He served his long years of life as a farmer in Pecos, Fort Stockton and Lamesa. He was part-owner in King Mesa Gin. Jake moved to San Antonio in October of 2011, where he lived out his life at home. Jake was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Broyles.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; a sister, Virginia Hutcheson and her husband Choc from Lubbock; by their son, David J. Broyles and his wife Cathy from San Antonio; their daughters, Karoyn Scogin and her husband Russell from Victoria, and Becky Card and her husband Kendall from Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren, Michael and Amber Broyles, Andrew Broyles and his fianc Mylindia Bass, Kathryn and Daniel Shaw, Jonathan and Nicole Card, Cristopher and Rebecca Henderson, and Steffanie and Geoff Stafford; and 12 beautiful great-grandchildren.
