WENZEL, LEONA MIDRED VanSICKLE

Mildred was born February 6, 1926 at White Rock, near Friendsville, MD. She was a daughter of Lewis and Louetta Kelly VanSickle. Two sisters, Naomi VanSickle Casteel Teets and Iva Ruby VanSickle Elliott, survived her.

Mildred (Mike or Millie as she was better known) was a retired middle school teacher, having taught for over 40 years with most of her teaching career spent in Prince George County, MD. She received her Bachelor of Education degree at West Virginia University, her masters and APC from George Washington University, Washington, DC, and was close to completing her doctorate.

Millie was a member of Temple 17, Pythian Sisters, Oakland, MD; she was Grand Guard of the Grand Temple of the Pythian Sisters of Maryland and a member of Lodge 543, Loyal Order of Moose, College Park, MD.

Her parents, Lewis and Louetta, two brothers, Ralphord Henry VanSickle and Everett VanSickle,
a niece, Anna Mary VanSickle and her husband Edward Wenzel predeceased her.

Millie died December 19, 1997 at the age of 71 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, at the result of a stroke caused by a brain tumor and hemorrhage.

Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, MD on Sunday. Services were held at the funeral home at 2:00 PM on Monday with the Reverend Donald Matthews officiating. Interment was in the Blooming Rose Cemetery, near Friendsville, MD.

Many of her friends knew her as 'Mike'. She was a school teacher.
